Mystery Mastering for RPGs
A downloadable game
Take the mystery out of making and running RPG mysteries!
Have any of these things happened to you?
Issue 1
You've spent hours, maybe days, building a fantastic adventure. The mission is dropped in front of the player characters.
And they ignore it. Why? How can you fix this?
Issue 2
You have a great story idea in mind, but you don't want to "railroad" your players. Mostly because they hate that.
How do you plot a story and still give your players freedom to explore?
Issue 3
The PCs took the mission, but everything is going wrong. They're missing clues, alienating allies, and following red herrings in a way that's just not fun for anyone. How can you fix it?
There are lots of things you can do to make sure your entire table has a good time going through an adventure you spent the time and effort to create.
Mystery Mastering introduces the 5C System:
- Break down mystery design into three parts:
- the call-up
- the circumstances
- the clues
- Build a mystery that players can solve
- Reference essential questions and issues
- Create while you read, with space to write in the book! (PDF form-fillable)
- Respond to complications in play and apply proven corrections promptly
The 5C system is a structured process that will help you plan, design, and run mystery scenarios for tabletop RPGs successfully. Honestly, it works for any kind of scenario, but you'll figure that out fast.
This book was written to be read, referenced, and re-used. I hope your table gets value from it.
If you feel like you didn't get your money's worth, tell me WHY (in the comments). If I can add or clarify copy to make a better product, I will.
